Music
can be a clever language and it has from ancient origins been
developed from a primitive notation into what we know to have
today. What we have today can be closely associated with notation
from the 9th Century - as this was really the first age when the
appearance of staff notation, in which pitch was indicated by dots
on or between lines with a symbol at the start called a clef which
would determine the pitch of note. However before the appearance of
staff notation there were many other ways developed of writing down
music and one of the earliest ways dates back to 3000BC; as the
ancient Greeks were the first to try to represent changes of pitch,
by use of the alphabet.
